Humans were not engineered to sit for hours at a time. It’s just not good for us. In too many classrooms today, kids are made to sit for entirely too many hours each day. It’s not good for their physical or intellectual development. If you would like to read an excellent article about the research that supports movement breaks for kids, click here to read this Washington Post article titled “Why Students Shouldn’t Be Forced to Spend So Much Time Sitting at Desks in Class” by Valerie Strauss.
With the social distancing restrictions in place, teachers need to come up with creative ways to get kids moving! I created “Wiggle Break” cards to help teachers get their kiddos moving throughout the school day. All of these Wiggle Breaks can be done while students are standing up next to their desks. My students love these Wiggle Breaks! Last year, one of my students exclaimed, “I wish I had a t-shirt that said ‘I heart Wiggle Breaks!'” Out of the mouths of babes, haha!
Create a healthy, happy, and relaxed classroom environment by incorporating movement breaks into your school day. These breaks are even good for the teacher! Click on the link below to download these Wiggle Breaks for free! Be sure to check out my seasonal and holiday Wiggle Breaks as well!
