I can still remember my second grade teacher, Mrs. Dunn, putting marbles in our class marble jar when the whole class did something good. When we filled our marble jar, we would always have a popcorn party, which we loved. I promised myself that when I was a teacher, I would carry on the same tradition with my class.
I’ve used a marble jar in my classroom for many years, and my classes have all responded well to it. When the whole class is well behaved, I put a few marbles in the jar. It adds up quickly! Then, when the whole jar is filled with marbles, we roll one dice to see what their reward will be. If we roll a one, the kids get extra recess. If we roll a two, they get to bring in a stuffed animal, and so on! It’s super fun and easy! I have 3 different versions of the chart to suit your class’s needs. I have one chart with nonedible rewards for classes that have food allergies/restrictions.
I recommend getting the marbles and two jars at a store such as Dollar Tree, Five Below, Jo-Ann’s, or Michael’s. You will need one jar that holds all the marbles and another jar that you will fill up for their reward.
